How our Church Views Your Children: An Open Letter from Hope for Kids

The Marriage & Family Ministry at Hope Church doesn't include just adult-focused opportunities and classes. We encompass everything and everybody that makes and shapes the family unit. That includes married couples, blended families, single parent households, children and so on.

Below, you'll find a letter from Keith Weiss, Hope for Kids Leap (1st-3rd grade) Coordinator, written to all the parents who walk through our chuch doors.

Parents, we pray you'll be encouraged on our view of your children.

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22:6

Here at Hope, we fully believe these words from King Solomon. We firmly plant our Hope for Kids ministry on them.

They are the foundation by which we share the good news of Jesus Christ with our kids and I believe that kid’s ministry is the foundational ministry of the church.

In 20 plus years of kids' ministry, I have always wanted the kids to know that Christ loved them so much, he died in their place.  Our salvation comes only from His death on the cross and His resurrection 3 days later.  It was a gift, they didn’t deserve, given freely because of grace.(Eph 2:8-9)

The first pastor I served with called grace, Glorious Riches AChrist’s Expense.”  The faith we have been given through this gift of grace allows us to live our lives with purpose.  The Holy Spirit directs our paths (Ps 119:105) and can keep them from straying away.  I can think of no greater testimony than that of a child believing in and living his entire life in response to the leadership and guidance of Jesus Christ.  To love mercy, act justly and walk humbly with their God.  (Mi 6:8). No matter where the kids go in their lives, I want them to never forget the G.R.A.C.E given to them. That is my heart, that H4K kids have a life that never strays away from the Lord. It starts now, at these ages in which we care for them.

I believe kids ministry is the ministry of our faith, not just a ministry.

Kids ministry has always been a passion of mine. It has never been thought of as a stepping stone or means of promotion to other ministries. It is where my gifting and strengths are best used for ministry.

Parents, we want you to know that God has given these children to you and equipped you to disciple them.

Listen, O my People! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 (NLT)

The influence you have over your kids far outweighs any influence the church may have.  We are here to be your advocate, to reaffirm these beliefs.

We want to be road pavers, making the path clear and free of obstacles.

Thank you for giving us the privilege of being a part of your and your child’s life.

~Keith
