Frequently asked questions

Is there a cost?
No. Rules of Engagement is completely free. However, we do need you to register ahead of time so we can plan to have enough water and/or snacks available.

Do I have to be engaged?
No. This workshop is a great time investment for any committed couple and their relationship.

Do I have to be affiliated or a member of Hope Church to attend Rules of Engagement?
No. This workshop is open to the public.

Do I have to be affiliated with any church?
No. We welcome couples who may or may not attend any church.

What can I expect to happen there?
You can expect to participate (if you want to) in activities with your fiancé to work on developing necessary marriage skills. Expect to have fun and get lots of great information. Topics include, but are not limited to, communication, finances, conflict resolution.

Can I get a discount on my marriage license by attending this workshop?
Yes! Four hours of premarital counseling/workshops is required to receive a notarized certificate. This certificate can be presented to Shelby County to receive a discount on the marriage license. In order to receive a notarized certificate, you must attend the three-hour premarital workshop and then meet individually with Freddie Albaugh, our Pastor of Marriage & Family.

Is this seminar for same-gender couples?
Hope Church does not officiate same-sex marriages (Genesis 1:27-28, 2:21-25; Matthew 19:4-6) or provide premarital counseling for same-sex couples. However, persons of all races, denominations, generations and sexual orientation are invited and welcomed to enjoy fellowship and worship with our Hope Church Family and all share in the good news of Jesus Christ (John 1:17, 3:16-17).
